On this day in 1809 our 16th president Abraham Lincoln, was born. He was elected in 1861 and has become one of the well known presidents with the history of the United States. The Civil War occurred under his watch, which led to him signing the  “Emancipation Proclamation”. He is also known for his speech known as The Emancipation Proclamation. Unfortunately this led to his assassination on April 14, 1865 by John Wikes Booth in the Ford’s Theatre. Happy Birthday President Lincoln.
